As a Local Guide, You know that Video in Google Maps have the power to help people better appreciate and make decisions about where to go.
But there are many things you can learn about a place by seeing it moving. That’s why Google introduces the video in Google Maps via its new Integrated Camera.
Today, Local Guides (and now all users) on Android have for the first time the ability to add videos to millions of places.
The possibilities are really many and exciting: make a video of a store that we visit, film his dish in the restaurant, show the entertainment in a theme park such that we can live them, etc.
Google Maps v. 9.58 places a premium on Google’s Local Guides, whose video contributions (reviews), Google hopes, will become an important feature in the very near future. If you are registered as Local Guides, now is the time for you to be more prominent in your community.
Everyone can become Local Guide. And their contributions could be highly sought after by Google My Business Pages.
This new feature is being rolled out in the Google Maps app for Android, and I’ve been able to use it to add animated videos to some of my contributions. Only the videos are not immediately visible in local business reviews.
For the simple reason, as shown in the picture above, that Google wants to check each video before validation to not only avoid posting unrelated videos, but also blocking disguised advertising videos.
I advise the Local Guides to indulge in such practices, otherwise they will never be Local Guides.
However, in his post, Google already invites Local Guides to publish videos (it earns 7 points per video) in their contributions from the built-in Google Maps camera.
Videos can be taken from the Google Maps camera for immediate download, but they are limited to only 10 seconds.
Contributors can, however, post up to 30 seconds of video duration if they have previously recorded them via another application and downloaded from their Gallery.
Select the desired action:
To remove the sound from a video, tap the volume bars at the bottom right.
Note: You can add media files for points of interest (such as locations or parks), but not for addresses or coordinates.
Tap the photos or videos you want to post. You can only add the first 30 seconds of a video.
To change the location of a photo or video, tap the location name and select another location.
Tap the blue “Publication” icon.
Note: Suggested photos to add to Google Maps will be displayed. To delete a suggestion, press X.
Select an address. To search for another location, tap “Another place”.
Note: You can only share one photo at a time.
To see the media files you shared on Google Maps, follow these steps:
Finally, be aware that for now, you can see videos in Google’s local search results through any web browser, but you can only upload videos to Google Maps via an Android mobile or tablet. Not iOS.
This feature to add a video to Maps is being deployed and will take a few weeks to be visible to all Local Guides.
